Floodlit Match

Unbelievable isn’t it? We have reached that time of year again when we must prepare ourselves for the unique fixture of each season, the floodlit NatWest pro40 match at the Brit Oval.

Surrey County Cricket Club are building up to yet another floodlit one day match at the Brit Oval by offering you, the www.surreycricket.com readers, the chance to win one of three pairs of tickets to the bonanza under lights. All you have to do to have a chance of winning the competition is to correctly answer the question below.

This year’s match is to be played against the Somerset Sabres on Tuesday 11 September. It promises to be an action packed affair, with the Brown Caps seeking revenge over the Sabres for their part in stopping Surrey’s qualification into Division One of the NatWest pro40 last year. Matches between these two teams have always provided the crowd with some thrilling entertainment and non more so than the close encounter in the Friends Provident Trophy earlier this season.

Last year’s match against the Gloucestershire Gladiators finished in disappointment for Surrey but so far this season their form under lights has been fantastic. Although they suffered a loss to the Essex Eagles at Chelmsford, Alan Butcher’s men have twice overcome the Sussex Sharks on their home patch at Hove, once in the Twenty20 and once in the Friends Provident Trophy.

www.surreycricket.com have highlighted two ‘head to head’ encounters to watch on the evening, picking two players from both teams, who will provide maximum entertainment when they come up against one another on the night.

The first ‘head to head’ is Matthew Nicholson v Marcus Trescothick. Trescothick has a huge amount of experience in this form of the game, having played 123 One Day Internationals for England. However, Surrey’s overseas Nicholson has shown himself to be a handful in both the One Day and Twenty20 arena this season with 18 wickets in all.

James Benning v Charl Willoughby is the second ‘head to head’ encounter. Willoughby has an extraordinary economy rate of just over 4 runs per over in domestic One Day cricket with this proving to be the difference when Surrey were at Bath earlier in the season. Nevertheless, Benning is capable of destroying any County attack in the country and after an extended period batting down the order in the Championship, he will be itching to get to the top of the order against the new white ball.

So why not come down to the Brit Oval to enjoy what will be the only opportunity to see the Surrey Brown Caps play under lights at their London home this season. To buy tickets to Surrey’s only floodlit match in London this season, click here. Tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for under 16s.

All you have to do to win one of three pairs of tickets, is email the correct answer to question below to directhit@surreycricket.com, stating FLOODLIT in the subject field.
