The Twenty20 Tsunami fundraising match today at the Brit Oval between an International XI and Asian XI has sold out.

(To make an online donation going towards all proceeds made from today's Tsunami fundraising match, see below.)

The match should be a spectacular event not only because of the stars playing in the match but also because of the ground’s recent improvements, particularly at the Vauxhall end.

Last February, the Brit Oval spent £25 million on a new stand, now called the OCS Stand, which has boosted capacity to 23,000 from an original 19,000. The Stand includes new media facilities, banqueting suites and conference suites as part of a 77-week project that has turned the Brit Oval into one of the leading sporting venues in the world.

The ground had its first test last Thursday when it hosted the first match of the NatWest Series between England and Bangladesh but tonight’s match promises to offer a whole lot more in terms of atmosphere, with a record crowd expected.

Tonight’s match will be the first Twenty20 match for many of the stars taking part. International captain, Brian Lara as well as a host of the Asian team will be experiencing their first taste of this brand of cricket. However, Adam Hollioake, the “King” of Twenty20, as Alec Stewart describes him is also taking part in the match and his battle with the likes of Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag will be one to watch. Hollioake’s Twenty20 success at domestic level is unquestioned and it will be interesting to see if his form will continue after being in retirement as well as coming up against some of the world’s best.

Virender Sehwag
Sehwag will definitely be one to watch today

The match would not have been possible had it not been for Surrey County Cricket Club and the Brit Oval’s major sponsors, Brit Insurance, who have guaranteed to cover all match costs as well as donate a further £250 for every run scored, as well as £2000 for every four and £5000 for every six hit in the match.

The match starts at 5.30pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from 5pm.

If you’re coming along to the match, why not purchase your very own souvenir International XI vs Asia XI T-Shirt, which will be available at the Brit Oval Shop. The T-Shirt costs just £14 with all profits going towards the money raised from the day. For other Brit Oval Shop merchandise, click here.
