Surrey’s Marks are All Singing All Dancing

Surrey County Cricket Club’s stars, Mark Butcher and Mark Ramprakash have added to their singing and dancing repertoire with a short video sequence filmed on the Club’s home turf at the Brit Oval on 24 April.

During the winter months Ramprakash cha cha cha’d and American Swung his way around the dance floor, taking part and subsequently winning the BBC prime time show, Strictly Come Dancing. Butcher, only two weeks after his batting partner at Surrey had been crowned Champion, followed in his reality TV footsteps by joining other celebrities in the singing equivalent, Just the Two of Us. Although he could not quite pull off victory, he came a valiant third, highlighting the range of talent that both individuals possess outside of the cricketing arena.

Although realising the enormous following that both of the Surrey players had gathered as a result of their television escapades, the pair resumed business as usual once the season begun. However not wanting to lose the huge, loyal fan base, it was decided that the two Marks would make a comeback, combining their singing and dancing talents with what they do best: cricket.

The Club’s idea was to produce a viral video, which would appeal to as many people as possible and entice them to come down to watch their heroes in action. These people would either be loyal fans who are a regular spectators, cricket buffs who follow from afar or those who just recognise the pair for the respective reality TV programmes.

In an attempt to reach as many people as possible to help promote their massive Twenty20 campaign, the Club will have this clip not only available from Surrey TV but as many other online avenues as possible.

The first video, featuring Ramprakash, places him in a tense situation with runs desperately required for Surrey to have a chance in the match. Can he hit the six that the Brown Caps so desperately need? To find out, you’ll have to visit Surrey TV to see for yourself.

Part two of the story won’t be available for a couple of weeks yet and this will focus on the Surrey skipper, Butcher. You’ll be able to see this on Surrey TV, but not until Monday 4 June.

Commenting on the making of the two clips, Butcher said, “Basically we’re trying to do something different to the norm and these videos are pretty interesting and fun concepts which I hope people will enjoy and more importantly, seize the opportunity to come and watch some cricket here”.
