Somerset canter to eight wicket win

Somerset cantered to victory over Surrey by eight wickets on the final day of the LV County Championship at Whitgift School.
James Hildreth struck the winning runs for the Sabres, who required just 108 second innings runs for victory after bowling Surrey out for 227 this morning.
Matthew Nicholson provided some resistance for Surrey first thing this morning as he and Saqlain Mushtaq started play with the score 172 for seven. The pair took their side up towards 200 before Ian Blackwell got the first breakthrough having Mushtaq caught behind for 12.
Nicholson formed another partnership with Jade Dernbach but with a lead of just 99, Surrey’s young quick was convincingly bowled by left-arm seamer, Charl Willoughby. Pedro Collins did not last much longer for the home side as Willoughby, in his following over had Surrey’s left-armer caught at mid-off by a back-pedalling Marcus Trescothick.
With the Brown Caps all out for 227 and with a lead of only 107, Somerset set off positively to try and knock the runs off quickly. Mushtaq took the new ball and had Neil Edwards trapped lbw for only five, but Trescothick and Justin Langer hit the ball to the boundary with regularity. Usman Afzaal had Langer bowled just before lunch as he looked to finish the match prior to the interval.
Only two and a half overs for Hildreth and Trescothick to finish proceedings, taking Somerset to victory by eight wickets.
