Saqlain returns to Hove for crunch match

Published 29 April 2008

Saqlain Mushtaq

Saqlain Mushtaq will return to Hove as part of the Surrey squad that will take on reigning Champions Sussex in the LV County Championship this week.

Mushtaq will return to Hove to take on the Club he played for last season and will go into the match in great form having picked up six second innings wickets against Durham at the Riverside last week. He will be joined by leg spinner, Chris Schofield, who comes into the squad to replace Jade Dernbach. This is the only change Alan Butcher has made following a very positive start to the season for the Brown Caps.

After difficult batting conditions at the Riverside last week, Mark Butcher will be hoping that his top order can recreate the form they displayed against Lancashire in the first match of the season. Butcher will look to lead the way by continuing his own personal form that has seen him score 206 runs in the first two Championship matches of the season.

In injury news, having seen a specialist Stewart Walters does not require surgery for his fractured cheekbone but is still likely to miss the next few weeks of the season.

Richard Clinton will also miss the second team’s match at Reigate this week with an injury to his hip flexor.

The full squad to take on Sussex is as follows:

Newman
Batty (WK)
Ramprakash
Butcher (C)
Afzaal
Brown
Jordan
Nicholson
Ormond
Collins
Mushtaq
Schofield

Highlights of each day’s play will go up on Surrey TV at the close.
