London derby ruined by rain

Rain at the Brit Oval

Rain scuppered chances of any play today in Surrey’s Friends Provident match with local rivals Middlesex at the Brit Oval.

Constant drizzle from early this morning caused play to be delayed but as the showers got heavier, umpires eventually called things off just before 2.30pm.

It was a shame for the supporters who did brave the conditions that they did not see any cricket today as one of Middlesex’s overseas players, Chaminda Vaas was expected to play his first match for the Club. It would have also been ex Surrey player, Tim Murtagh’s first appearance back at the Brit Oval since leaving the Club last season.

Mark Butcher’s side were hungry for their third consecutive win in the competition but like some other sides today, will have to settle with the shared points.

Surrey’s next match in this competition will be at home against Ireland on 27 May.

Before their thoughts turn to that match however, they will focus on their next LV Championship match with Sussex at Hove, which begins this Wednesday.

Follow this match, beginning at 11am, by visiting www.surreycricket.com and clicking on the Surrey Radio service that provides live ball by ball commentary of the entire match.
