Ain't no mountain high enough for Saker or Murtagh

Neil Saker and Chris Murtagh have been putting themselves through hell each week in an attempt to get their bodies into shape for what will be yet another gruelling season ahead.

Both men train each week day with Club fitness trainer, Matt Church and have been given an intense regime that involves regular gym work, cycling, swimming and hill sprints.

The entire Surrey squad were given five weeks off at the end of the season and from late October, have been getting back into the habit of regular exercise to keep themselves in good physical shape in readiness for pre season training, which will begin around mid March.

Some have gone overseas to play or train while others have stayed in the UK to do various activities, which will keep them active over the close season.

Both Saker and Murtagh have been working directly with Church who can’t believe the effort they’re putting in.

He said, “It’s been really satisfying for me to work with them on proper programmes. They are really putting in a 100% in terms of effort. It’s been superb.”

He also added, “It’s gym work on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with swimming or cycling on Tuesday and hill running on Thursdays. The hill is around 90 metres in length and it’s extremely tough. We have also been varying it up a little with the guys also carrying sand bags too.”
