Walters cleans up at Club awards evening

Stewart Walters

Stewart Walters, currently on tour with the rest of the Surrey team in Mumbai, India has had his excellent summer of cricket in Australia capped off with three awards at his Club’s presentation evening.

Playing for the Perth based side, Midland Guildford, Walters picked up the batting aggregate and batting average awards, as well as the Club Champion award.

It is fitting that the 22 year old received the recognition for what has been a very prosperous Australian summer on the field. And Stewart Walters

it has been just as good a summer off the field too. Just before Walters was due to leave Perth last month, he was happily married to his long-term partner in front of friends and family.

Midland Guildford was also the Club that Alec Stewart played for when he spent winters abroad. In season 2005/6, Walters scored over 700 runs for the club at an average of 48. If he can carry this sort of form into the English season for Surrey, we may see him pushing for a place in the Surrey four-day side before too long.

In other Surrey Cricket news, Indian pace bowler Zaheer Kahn has replaced Australia’s Nathan Bracken as one of Worcestershire’s overseas players for the upcoming season. Bracken had indicated that he may not be available to play for most of the English season as he’d previously intended. As a result the Club thought it would be in their best interests to replace him with Kahn.

27 year old Kahn had a brief stint with Surrey during the 2004 season when he replaced the injured Saqlain Mushtaq.
