Surrey seek promotion playoff place in battle with the Foxes

Surrey V Kent Under Lights

With the promotion playoffs in sight, the Brown Caps travel to Leicestershire to take on the Foxes in the last and deciding NatWest Pro40 match of the 2007 season.

Tuesday evening’s loss to the Somerset Sabres means that Surrey can only gain promotion via the playoff match, which pitches third place in division two against third bottom of division one. However as the table currently stands, results will have to go in Surrey’s favour if they are to claim the third spot.

Somerset and Durham are guaranteed promotion, whilst Middlesex and Surrey – on eight points - are fighting it out for the third spot with Kent, who are on ten points after completing their matches. If both teams win tomorrow, it starts to get complicated, as all three sides will finish on ten points. Net run rate is the deciding factor and at this time Middlesex are have the superior standing in this department.

It is a must win game for Surrey and as such Alan Butcher has selected a strong squad which is made up of the team that played against Somerset on Tuesday evening plus Matthew Nicholson, Mohammad Akram and Stewart Walters.

The Surrey squad to take on Leicestershire is as follows

Newman
Benning
Ramprakash
Butcher
Batty
Brown
Walters
Hamilton-Brown
Nicholson
Jordan
Hussain
Dernbach
Saker
Akram
