Surrey return to Shark infested waters

The Surrey Brown Caps will return to Hove tomorrow afternoon to take on the Sussex Sharks in a Friends Provident Trophy match to be played under lights.

Alan Butcher’s men will have fond memories of the last 50 over match they played down in Brighton as a Mark Ramprakash century and four wickets with the ball from Chris Schofield helped the Brown Caps romp to victory.

Mark Butcher will return to the side to lead an in form top order which will include James Benning who will look to duplicate the innings he played at Lord’s against the Middlesex Crusaders last Sunday.

You can see an interview with Benning, looking ahead to tomorrow’s match, on Surrey TV.

In light of the decent weather over the last couple of days, the Butchers have included Saqlain Mushtaq in the squad with the thought that the Hove wicket might provide some assistance for the off spinner and his leg-spinning partner Schofield.

Surrey’s bright all rounder, Chris Jordan also returns to the line up having missed his side’s clash with the Kent Spitfires at the Brit Insurance Oval last bank holiday Monday.

In injury news, Stewart Walters has made a fantastic recovery to turn out for the second team against Warwickshire at Cheam this week. The clean hitting stroke-maker fractured his cheek bone after sustaining a nasty blow to the face against Essex but felt well enough to play this week.

Richard Clinton is making a steady recovery from a hip flexor injury and will be available for selection from next week.

The full squad to take on the Sussex Sharks is as follows:

Newman
Benning
Ramprakash
Butcher
Afzaal
Brown
Batty
Jordan
Schofield
Nicholson
Collins
Dernbach
Mushtaq

As always, ball-by-ball commentary of the match will be available from www.surreycricket.com, courtesy of BBC London.

Highlights of the match will be available on Surrey TV.
