Natwest Cricket Force 2008

Surrey Cricket is contributing towards a record this weekend as the ECB continues to break the boundaries with club participation in their volunteer initiative, NatWest CricketForce.

A record 1180 clubs have already registered to take part in NatWest CricketForce 2008 and the Surrey players will be down at Purley cricket club, the County’s flagship club for this year, this Friday.

NatWest CricketForce encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community cricket club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds.

NatWest CricketForce 2007 was another stunningly successful event, with more than 80,000 volunteers turning out and bringing an in kind value to the game of over £35 million. Surrey held the prestigious flagship event at Shepperton Cricket Club in 2007, where a brand new pavilion was built in time for the start of the season.

A focus Club in Surrey, Purley Cricket Club are leading the way in achievement, with a tremendous new development which will provide a classroom, IT learning facilities and much more to their resident Academy and youth structure. It will also provide an office for Chris Bullen, Surrey’s Development Manager for the area – meaning that he will be able to base himself at the Club creating a greater opportunity for grassroot coaching and development.

Commenting on the up coming NatWest CricketForce weekend, Director of Cricket Development at Surrey, Paul Taylor, said: “This really is a tremendous initiative and one that Surrey get behind 100%. Last year at Shepperton was an incredible achievement and there has been much of the same at Purley in 2008.”

He added: “A lot of the Surrey squad are coming down to Purley and Brit Insurance have very kindly donated a large sum of money. It will be a fantastic occasion and one that I am very much looking forward to seeing. It is amazing what many hands can do in such a short space of time and NatWest CricketForce provides the initiative to continue the development of club cricket and grassroot cricket in this country.”
