Former Surrey and England Captain Alec Stewart has been selected as part of England’s greatest ever One Day International XI.

England’s greatest One Day team is featured in the May issue of the Wisden Cricketer magazine, which convened a 15-man panel to discuss the merits of the players who have represented England in 467 One Day Internationals since 1971.

Stewart, who played 172 One Day Internationals for England across a career that spanned 14 years, has been picked as the wicket keeper of England’s greatest ever One Day International XI. Alec Stewart

The former Surrey man has also been placed at number three in the team’s batting line-up, which is a huge testament to his 4677 One Day runs at 31.60.

Current England players Andrew Flintoff, Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood were all selected by the 15-man panel, which included former England captains Nasser Hussain and Bob Willis as well as other cricketers and highly respected journalists of the game.

Derek Underwood was also selected by the panel, for his ability to bowl penetrative and economic spin. Underwood boasts a strike rate (39.9) and economy (3.44) to match that of Shaun Pollock, who is currently rated as the best bowler in the world.

The greatest England One Day XI is as follows:

Graham Gooch (Captain)
Marcus Trescothick
Alec Stewart (WK)
Kevin Pietersen
Andrew Flintoff
Neil Fairbrother
Paul Collingwood
Ian Botham
Darren Gough
Bob Willis
Derek Underwood
