Saker in possible loan deal
Published 30 November 2007
Surrey paceman, Neil Saker might be put out on loan next season to further his own career in an attempt to gain some regular first team cricket.
With the additions to the squad of West Indian quick, Pedro Collins on Pakistan’s, Mohammad Asif, places in the Surrey bowling ranks for next season will be limited and as a result, Saker could be better served, at least in the interim, to play some regular first team cricket elsewhere.
23 year old Saker, who made his debut for the Brown Caps in 2003 has had a limited amount of appearances in the first team since then but finally managed to break through this year, with 15 wickets in eight Championship matches- The highlight, a five-wicket haul against Lancashire at Old Trafford.

The possible loan deal would mean that Saker’s services could be loaned out to another County under the proviso that he played first team cricket. At this stage, Saker has not been linked to another Club but if an agreement were to be reached, it would be for a specified period of at least four weeks and no more than one season.
Should Surrey suffer some injuries to key bowlers during the period of loan, permission could be granted by the ECB to get Saker back in the Surrey ranks.
The move would be a positive one for him and the Club. Saker would be able to continue to make his stock rise by playing regular first-class cricket rather than biding his time playing second team cricket and the Club can keep hold of a youngster they have invested a lot of time in, since he joined the Surrey Academy at the end of 2002.
Surrey Cricket Manager Alan Butcher said, “Neil is desperate to succeed in the game and the chance of furthering his experience with a loan deal will have three way benefits for him, for Surrey and for the loan Club.”
