Rory Hamilton-Brown has been selected as England Under 19 captain for their upcoming Test and one-day series against Pakistan.

Earlier in the year, Rory had been selected to captain England on their tour of Malaysia but a shoulder injury prevented him from doing so. However the selectors have shown faith in the 19 year old to do the job for his country this time around having already put in some handy performances for England in the past.

Last year, he helped England reach the semi-finals of the Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka where he finished with 141 runs at an average of 35.25 and also grabbed 13 wickets with the ball.

The two Test series will precede five one-day matches, which are scheduled for the following dates:

First Test 4-7 August

Second Test 10-13 August

First ODI Wednesday 15 August

Second ODI Friday 17 August

Third ODI Monday 20 August

Fourth ODI Wednesday 22 August

Fifth ODI Thursday 23 August

Rory will also be joined by Stuart Meaker, who has been playing alongside him for the Surrey second eleven. Meaker has been touted as one of Surrey’s major strike weapons in the years to come and has been through the Academy ranks. In the second team’s recent three-day match with Essex, he picked up three wickets.

David Graveney, Chairman of Selectors, said, "The Selectors have taken into account players who are producing performances in County first elevens and others playing consistently in Second XI cricket and still eligible for the Under 19’s World Cup next February”.

The 1st U19 Test had been scheduled to be played at New Road, Worcester, 4-7 August, but due to the flooding of the ground will now be moved to another venue. ECB will confirm the venue for the first Test in due course and the third Test will be played at Derby from 10-13 August.

Adam Lyth (Yorkshire)
