Razzaq makes County Championship debut for Surrey
Published 29 June 2008
Big hitting Abdul Razzaq will make his LV County Championship debut today when Surrey take on Kent in their first four day fixture since the Twenty20 season began in early June.
Razzaq was a late signing to the Brown Caps Twenty20 squad, but even several explosive innings from him could not help the team through to the quarter final stages of the competition. He will be hoping for a better result against Kent, who will be playing the Warwickshire Bears in a Twenty20 quarter final on July 9th, over the next four days.
Mark Ramprakash retains the captaincy of the side for this fixture, with Mark Butcher still out from his knee operation two weeks ago. Chris Schofield will also have the chance to test out his recently fractured thumb over the more taxing four day format, having made a few Twenty20 outings since he sustained the injury last month.
The full Surrey squad to take on Kent is as follows:
Newman
Spriegel
Ramprakash (c)
Batty
Afzaal
Brown
Razzaq
Schofield
Mushtaq
Dernbach
Collins
Ormond
As always, ball-by-ball commentary will be available from www.surreycricket.com courtesy of BBC London.
You will also be able to see highlights of the match on Surrey TV half an hour after the close of play.
