Ramprakash poised to make history
Published 13 May 2008
Mark Ramprakash is on the brink of cricketing history as he travels to the Rose Bowl with Surrey to take on Hampshire in the LV County Championship this week.
The Surrey maestro notched up his 99th first class century against Sussex ten days ago and is required to reach three figures just once more to become only the 25th batsman in the history of the game to score a century of centuries in first class cricket.
Surrey will resume their LV County Championship season having played four Friends Provident Trophy matches in the last week. Although they have had mixed results, the Brown Caps will be boosted by the return of Chris Jordan to the squad. The all rounder has missed the last three matches as a precaution because of a side strain.
In the absence of Chris Schofield, Murtaza Hussain has been included in the squad. The off spinner signed with Surrey last year after picking up 11 wickets in just two matches at the end of the season.
In injury news, Chris Schofield underwent surgery on Sunday on his left thumb which he injured in Surrey's Friends Provident Trophy Match against Sussex last week. He is likely to be out for the next six to eight weeks.
Richard Clinton has returned to second team action this week after recovering from his hip flexor injury.
Interesting statistics:
In the 176 matches in the County Championship between these two teams, Surrey have dominated with 85 victories. Hampshire meanwhile have only won 27 matches whilst 67 encounters have ended in a draw.
In matches against Hampshire away from home, Surrey have won 41 to Hampshire's 19.
In the last ten first class matches, Surrey have been victorious on eight occasions.
The full squad to take on Hampshire is as follows:
Batty
Newman
Ramprakash
Butcher
Afzaal
Brown
Jordan
Nicholson
Ormond
Collins
Mushtaq
Dernbach
Hussain
