Nicholson back for Durham clash

Matt Nicholson

Surrey’s overseas player, Matthew Nicholson, has recovered from his illness to return to the LV County Championship squad which will take on Durham at the Riverside this week.

Nicholson arrived in good time for the start of the season but was struck down with a bug on the eve of the first LV County Championship match against Lancashire at the Brit Insurance Oval last week. The Australian fast bowler comes into the squad to join Surrey’s strong contingent of fast bowlers.

The seamer friendly nature of the Riverside pitch has lead Surrey Cricket Manager, Alan Butcher, to make one change to the squad from last week’s match. He has brought Jade Dernbach in the squad, with the young fast bowler’s inclusion coming at the expense of Chris Schofield, who will join the second team in their match against Essex at Southend.

Jimmy Ormond has also recovered from an illness that kept him out of Sunday’s clash with the Middlesex Crusaders to take his place in the squad for this match.

Mark Ramprakash, Mark Butcher and Usman Afzaal, who all notched up centuries against Lancashire last week, will be hoping to replicate their performances this week against Durham.

The full squad to take on Durham is as follows:

Batty (wk)
Newman
Ramprakash
Butcher (c)
Afzaal
Benning
Brown
Jordan
Nicholson
Dernbach
Mushtaq
Collins
Ormond

Highlights of each day’s play will go up on Surrey TV at the close.
