Drizzle and Misery at Blackpool

Blackpool

Surrey were frustrated by the weather on day one of the LV County Championship match against Lancashire at Blackpool. The pitch and outfield at Stanley park were sodden and unfit for any play to begin in the match as the whole day was abandoned.

The umpires took an early look in the morning and decided a second look would be required at 1 pm. It was then decided that they would call it a day. The weather over Blackpool was not helping matters, as the ground was not given any chance to dry up. The sky was dark and gloomy and the air was still and damp. The ground staff tried everything to aid the drying process but to no avail. Later some drizzle then came over the ground that added to the problems.

The ground looks like it will not hold much more water and any further rain overnight could easily cause a second day to be ruled out, as the ground would be very hazardous to play on. The players headed back to the hotel early and some looking forward to seeing some of the sights of the seaside town.

Jade Dernbach had some time to speak to Surrey TV and you can listen to his interview here. Dernbach spoke of his form with the ball, and in particular his enjoyment of taking lots of wickets from the Brown Caps in the one-day format after claiming another four wickets against the Bears on Monday. Watch Dernbach pick up those wickets here on Surrey TV.
