Surrey all rounder, James Benning has been working hard outside his commitments with Perth Cricket Club by meeting former Surrey captain, Adam Hollioake, at the beach for sprint training.

Benning’s recent form for Perth has seen the Club push for league victory and qualification into the play-offs of the Western Australian Premier League. The powerful stroke maker scored a big hundred and followed it up a week later with a rapid half century placing his side second in the table with two matches to go.

Perth will complete the second day of their match against University tomorrow and have all to play for as they trail Scarborough, who currently top the table, by only three points. Benning and his Surrey team mate Stewart Walters will be required on top form as they prepare to take on the league leaders next week, in what will surely be the match that decides who tops the ladder going into the play-offs.

The reports coming back to the cricket management at the Brit Oval suggest that he is ready to start the season and looking strong.

Over the other side of Australia, Matthew Nicholson continues to put in solid performances with New South Wales. Surrey’s overseas player in 2007 picked up figures of three for 69 from 20 overs as his state side cruised to a nine wicket victory over Western Australia.
