Batty earns charity cash for growing a tash

Surrey’s star wicket keeper and opening batsman, Jonathan Batty, has put his gloves, pads and bat to one side, in order to support the charity event MOVEMBER, in aid of prostate cancer.
Batty and five other members of Surrey County Cricket Club staff: Nathan Ross (Communications Manager), David Gorrod (Cricket Centre Manager), George Foster (Community Manager), Matthew Church (Fitness, Strength and Conditioning Coach) and Simon Hollingsworth (Communications Executive) are growing a moustache in an attempt to raise money for prostate cancer.
At the start of Movember (the month formally known as November), the team of six, known as the ‘Surrey Handlebars’ registered with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known individually as Mo Bros set about their month’s voyage of growing, grooming and in some instances dyeing their moustaches, along the way raising as much money and awareness about prostate cancer as possible.
The Surrey Handlebars are now at the end of the second week in Movember and as a result of their ungainly and slightly patchy facial hair are receiving some strange looks from passers-by.
Batty commented about this element of the Charity fundraiser: "I think that we have all received some strange looks from people in the streets, not to mention respective girlfriends, but ultimately it is all worth it because it is for a great cause. We have already managed to raise £410 which is fantastic but we are still looking for people to sponsor us."
He added: "I must say that I am looking forward to the end of the month!!"
Surrey County Cricket Club have also kindly offered to double any funds raised by members of staff or the professional squad at the Club.
Movember culminates at the end of the month at the Gala Partés. These glamorous and groomed events will see Tom Selleck and Ian Botham look-a-likes battle it out on the catwalk for their chance to take home the prestigious Man of Movember title.
