Another successful weekend for Surrey youngsters

Simon King continued his fine form with the ball this weekend for Reigate Priory as he took 6-74 against Malden Wanderers.

Following on from his 6-61 in the 2nd XI championship game at the Brit Oval against Sussex, King removed fellow Surrey team mates Stewart Walters and Laurie Evans. Both batsmen have been in good form in recent weeks and so were prize scalps for King and his Reigate side. Malden Wanderers amassed 240-9 from their 66 overs which Reigate set about chasing with Jason Roy at the top of the order. Roy’s dismissal for 14 bought Chris Murtagh to the crease who was the anchor of the Reigate innings, scoring 70 from 107 balls. He led his side toward victory before being caught by Stewart Walters off the bowling of another Surrey Youth cricketer, Alan Cope. This win has helped Reigate to the top of the Surrey Championship Premier Division.

Elsewhere Matt Spriegel took 3-16 in Division 1 as Banstead dismissed Farnham for only 84. This follows on from some good form he has shown with the bat for Surrey’s first team where he made his debut first class fifty for the
Brown Caps on a tricky pitch up at Trent Bridge against Nottinghamshire.
