Surrey’s young stars, Jade Dernbach, Stuart Meaker and Tom Winslade have been selected by the England and Wales Cricket Board to attend the 2007 Skill Set Programme at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.

Surrey’s contracted quick bowlers Dernbach and Meaker and 2006-07 Laker Spin Scholarship winner Winslade have all put in notable performances this summer to attract the attention of the ECB and gain selection on the Skill Sets this winter.

Dernbach had a fantastic end to the season for Surrey, demonstrated by his hostile performances in the NatWest Pro40 that yielded ten wickets at just 13.10 each. The fast bowler also made four appearances in the LV County Championship picking up nine wickets.

Meaker was a member of the Pemberton Greenish Surrey Academy last year and completed his studies at Cranleigh school this summer. Promising performances in the Academy through the winter gained him a place on Surrey’s pre-season tour to Mumbai as well as selection for the England under 19s Test and one Day International series against Pakistan. Since then the young quick has been given a one year contract with Surrey, complimenting his selection as a member of the England squad that will travel to Malaysia to take part in the ICC under 19 World Cup in February and March next year.

Winslade was part of last year’s National Skill Set and as a result of some impressive displays in that time he toured with an England development squad to India in February this year.

The programme will be fronted by John Abrahams, the ECB's Elite Player Development Manager and runs from October 22 to December 21. The Skill Set Programme has been borne out of the success of the Fast Bowling project overseen by Kevin Shine and the Spin Bowling programme developed by David Parsons. The sessions will be designed to fit into the players overall programme with their County and their inclusion means they have been identified as a player with outstanding promise in their specialist field.

David Houghton former Zimbabwe and Derbyshire coach has been invited to lead the Batting National Skill Sets sessions and Bruce French the former Nottinghamshire and England wicket keeper to lead in his specialism. Other coaches involved are Jack Birkenshaw (Spin), Mike Newell (Batting), Mike Hendrick and John Lever (Pace).
