Ramps sees uncertainty in England selectors

After the One Day International series loss against New Zealand, the England team management have a few very important decisions to make and Surrey’s Mark Ramprakash is uncertain whether they are clear about which selections to make.
In an exclusive interview with Surrey TV, Ramprakash has suggested that the England selectors appear uncertain regarding specific decisions that need to be made as Test squad prepare for the three match series that starts in under two weeks time.
The matter of most concern according to the Surrey number three is for the wicket keeping spot, which is currently being contested between Phil Mustard and Tim Ambrose. Surrey skipper and Ramprakash’s team mate, Mark Butcher, expressed similar unease to Surrey TV a few months ago following the selection of the two inexperienced keepers and it seems the issue has become no clearer since.
Ramprakash concurs with the thoughts of his captain saying:
“Well who knows? Do the selectors know? I am not sure they do. David Graveney was very keen to try and state his case but are we any the wiser?”
“Phil Mustard: it was left that he would play in the One Day matches but we were told if there was a Test Match tomorrow – Tim Ambrose would play. I’m not sure that the selectors know!”
An interesting inclusion in the Test squad was that of Andrew Strauss, who was re-selected having been dropped for the tour to Sri Lanka before Christmas.
“I’m not sure why he was left out in the first place. Was it for poor form? In which case, why has he been re-selected? Or was it a case of resting him and bringing him back because as his record shows, he is a proven Test player and a very fine player.”
Strauss'selection will cause a few problems with the England top order meaning that some players, who have established themselves in the batting line up, might have to make way.
“By the look of it, I think that he might come straight back in and Michael Vaughan will drop to number three. In which case, Ian Bell who has been backed at number three for quite a long time – and who I think has been flourishing all the time – may well get dropped down to number six."
