Having laid off the cricket over the winter to get himself nice and fresh for yet another County season, Surrey skipper, Mark Butcher has found another way of occupying his time in the colder months.

As most Surrey fans will know already, Butcher is a keen musician and this became public knowledge in the New Year, when he starred on the reality TV programme, Just the Two of Us.

Butcher and his singing partner, Sarah Brightman were one of the main attractions on the show but could not quite emulate Mark Ramprakash’s success on Strictly Come Dancing. The left-hander, eventually getting voted off the show in the semi-final.

And this was not the only spot of performing from Butcher in the last few weeks. As a result of his efforts on the BBC show, Butcher was invited to play at an exclusive London Club, the Pigalle, in Picadilly Circus recently as one of the lead performing acts. Also playing on the night was comedian Bobby Davro and Hayley Sanderson, a talented young singer who is the voice of the Talk Talk advert singing the Thunderclap Newman cover, “Something in the Air”.

Butcher entertained the crowd with covers from Tina Turner as well as belting out a tune or two of his own.

But the singing will have to take a back seat soon as he and the rest of the Surrey squad report back for pre season training on 1 March. And be on the look out for a rather unique pre season schedule. It is rumoured that Cricket Manager, Alan Butcher has planned for a session in a nearby dance studio where dancing champion, Ramprakash can offer some advice on footwork.
