Batty wins Brit Insurance Player of the Month

Surrey wicket-keeper, Jonathan Batty has been awarded April’s Brit Insurance Player of the Month by cricket manager, Alan Butcher.
After what has been a successful month for the Surrey side, who kicked off their Liverpool Victoria County Championship campaign with a win against Leicestershire last week, Butcher had a difficult time adjudicating the winner, after a number of brilliant
Jonathan Batty getting presented with the award individual performances.
But Butcher thought that Batty’s all-round consistency with the bat and with the gloves was the reason behind his decision.
“I think his form has been pretty consistent since the start of the season. He has been solid behind the stumps and his batting at the top of the order with Scott Newman has also been impressive.”
Another major factor in the decision was his performances not only in the four-day game but also in the C&G Trophy, which kicked off last Sunday. In the two Surrey matches so far, Batty has made two half-centuries as well as being tidy behind the stumps.
Butcher added, “Jonathan’s form in all forms of the game so far has been the most consistent. But it is positive to see that there are a number of names who could just as easily have won the award.”
The other strong contenders were Scott Newman, Mark Ramprakash, Mark Butcher, Rikki Clarke and Azhar Mahmood who have all starred for Surrey at various times.
Batty has scored 213 runs in the LVCC at 53.25 including six catches and a stumping. In the C&G Trophy, he has taken four catches and scored 105 runs at 52.50.
The award was presented to Batty at the lunchtime interval by Brit Insurance's Paul Gildersleeves.
