2007 Season Summary
Yet again the under 17 team went unbeaten through the year. Sadly, weather affected half of their match programme, which was unfortunate for a team that played some very good cricket. Surrey enjoyed comprehensive victories over Sussex and Glamorgan. Luc Durandt was the only centurion with 109 against Middlesex, but the batting was genuinely strong across the season with Tom Jewell having an excellent year scoring 319 runs in five innings at an average of 319! Tom played maturely throughout the year and his progression was marked. Rory Burns, who averaged 90 batting at number eight, formed a strong partnership with Jewell. Rory kept very wellin the season and his lower order runs set up many good positions for us. Daniel Newton was solid in his opening position scoring 215 runs at 54. In the bowling department, our spinners struggled to impose themselves and therefore were never that effective, apart from their performance against Sussex where they took 13 of the 17 wickets that fell. Muhunthan Harinath headed the wicket tally with 10 at 27.8, followed by Daryl King, whose nine wickets came at an average of 26. Zafar Ansari had the best average of 13.4 with his left-arm spin. Navid Chaudhry picked up a side injury that hampered his season and the attack was weaker without him. Jewell led the attack and his fitness and progress was impressive. His overall approach was a great example to the rest of the team
