2007 Season Sumamry
Dave Sheppard and Sid Lahiri’s under 13s lost three games to the weather, with a further game abandoned halfway through when a monsoon fell over Ilford Cricket Club. They played six games; winning four and losing two. The qualifying group of the ECB National Competition came down to a decider against Kent, with the winners going through to the quarter-finals. Kent won the nail-biter – scoring the winning runs with two balls remaining and two wickets in hand. Only two batsmen scored over 100 runs this season – last season’s player of the year, Rory Snowball, who has developed into an extremely reliable and consistent performer with the bat, and Adam Dyson whose 136 runs included the season’s best performance by a batsman – 68 not out against an extremely strong Barmy Army side, including three South of England players. The pick of the bowlers this year was offspinner Matthew Davies – who took the most wickets at a miserly economy rate. Other bowlers who excelled this season were Matt Packham, Charlie Kimmins and Dyson. Special mention must be made of Michael Burgess, who captained the side with real skill and dedication and whose outstanding performances behind the stumps earned him well-deserved selection into the South of England side.
