Officials Association
Surrey Cricket’s Officials Association was founded in August 2007 as a result of the formation of England and Wales Cricket Board Officials Association (ECBOA). Its main objectives are to promote in Surrey the interests of umpires and scorers in particular and cricket in general working closely with both Surrey Cricket and ECB.

The Association will be responsible through its Education Officer to co-ordinate all ECB training courses and examinations for both umpires and scorers throughout the county and to ensure all relevant information is passed to all tutors and assessors within the OA. It will also be responsible for the assessments of all members within the Association using all available information from Leagues and CupCompetitions within the county.
For more details of the SCBOA, please contact the Chairman, David Edwards on 020 8651 1087, or via e-mail.
Training courses for both umpires and scorers are held throughout the winter months at
various venues around Surrey. Please contact the secretary of your nearest Local Association who will be pleased to give you details if their umpires and scorers courses.

In addition Surrey Cricket has appointed a Surrey Umpires and Scorers Advisor. He is Graham Cooper, Training Officer for West Surrey and the European Cricket Council Umpires Consultant. His role will be to help run introductory clinics to clubs, leagues, schools and colt’s leagues, promoting umpiring and scoring. Clinics can be designed to suit specific needs. He already delivers the two-hour “the 30 minute umpire” aimed at those club players who have to do their stint of umpiring during a game. It covers the no ball, wide and lbw laws plus signalling and other things that are likely to happen during your time out in the middle. Scoring can be covered in a similar way.
Through these introductory type clinics, the aim is to encourage and inform people so that they may want to move on and take one of the recognised ECB courses run by the various associations detailed above.
If your club, league or organisation is interested then please register with Chris Bullen.
