The planning application was approved on 29th January by the London Borough of Lambeth. Subsequently, the Health and Safety Executive has recommended that the application be called in, putting the building programme on hold for the 2008 season. However, the demolition of the Surrey Tavern still commenced on 14th April, and will be finished by the beginning of June.
