2007 Season Sumamry
For the first time this age group qualified for the national quarter-finals in the ECB 45-over cup competition, with strong victories against Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Sussex. Our quarter-final match saw us narrowly beaten by a strong Middlesex side that on the day coped much better with the damp conditions and emerged deserved winners. Despite this setback and a heavy defeat to Yorkshire, the squad bounced back superbly and finished the season with three consecutive victories against strong opposition. This showed great character and determination and obvious improvements were apparent in individuals towards the end of the summer. There were several notable performances throughout the year. Left-hander Josh Allen topped the run tally, batting with skill and promise at the top of the order. All-rounder Will Leith excelled, scoring 160 runs at an average of over 30, and in his first season as a newly converted left-arm spinner he topped the wicket tally at an average of 15. Top order batter Matt Laidman kept wicket well all year and his skill behind the stumps was shown by the fact that he took seven stumpings in as many games, including four down the leg side. Sam Woods showed his potential as a leg-spinner/batter with a full repertoire of variations and with continued hard work, Sam promises to be one for the future. Elliot Daly demonstrated a great attitude and approach to the game, gaining the respect of his team through this and his all-round contributions. He led from the front at all times, producing several match-winning performances with both the bat and the ball. Elliot’s consistently strong performances saw him deservedly earn selection into the South of England under 14 and the Surrey under 15 teams.
