There are three phases to an Academy year:
Assessment phase The Assessment phase runs from September to December. It is primarily about ‘building a picture’ for each player, concentrating on fitness and conditioning, psychology, lifestyle issues and technical work.
Preparation phase The Preparation phase runs from January to April. It focuses on technical skills, along with the players’ lifestyle, psychology and fitness and conditioning training. Match based scenarios are created with training session emphasis very much outcome based.
Performance phase The Performance phase runs from May to August with outdoor training sessions combined with individual match programmes. During this the Academy Director will monitor the performances of Academy players in school, CAG, Academy and 2nd XI fixtures. The Academy tours during the pre-season, this provides valuable experience for all the players and allows an insight into how each player has progressed through the Assessment and Preparation phases.
