Surrey 50+

The Surrey 50+ Championship XI participate in the ECB 50+ County Championship and are placed in the South East Region together with Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex and Sussex. There are thirty-seven Counties plus the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and The Cricket Association of Wales split regionally into five groups of eight teams. The top three of each group and the overall best fourth placed team qualify for the knockout stages.

The games are based on 45 overs a side with no bowler permitted to bowl more than 9 overs. All players must be 50 years of age and be a member of a Club affiliated to the relevant County Cricket Board. The ECB 50+ County Championship started in 1982 and Surrey has reached the final on two occasions. In the first, in 2004, Surrey defeated Kent in a close fought contest where both sides finished on 147 but Surrey had lost fewer wickets and thus became Champions. On the second occasion, last season 2007, Kent gained their revenge with a comfortable 8 wicket win in a high scoring game.

Our ‘A’ Team (2nd XI) play in the Kreeda Home Counties Seniors Championship. The eight teams are from the same Counties, which form the South East group in the ECB Championship. The top two teams play each other in a Final. This competition permits the inclusion of two players aged 49 years. Surrey’s ‘A’ Team have reached the final for three consecutive seasons and became Champions in two of them. They recorded a fine win against Hertfordshire in the 2007 season having lost to Kent the previous year and defeating Hertfordshire previous to that.
